Art, January and Smiles!

This is me! Smiling lots because of all of the wonderful support I have received for my art work in this new year! My hardest work began January 1st 2013 as I am trying to create more artwork and get it seen. I have taken the opportunity of a new year and a new start with conviction and determination. I worked hard to create a foundation and a body of work that I could stand in securely and build skywards. January has gone well so far and the response to my work has been heart warming. Especially the messages I have had on the video I made recently of myself painting to show the painting process. My business cards arrived and I am happy and excited to start using them! Katy x

Architectural Art

I have lived the best part of the last 3 years with students studying architecture. What I learnt by the time these people graduated was very much different to what I had envisioned upon our first meeting. In this field, creativity does hold boundaries. There are practicalities, formalities and imbedded occurances that cannot be escaped. This does not make the field any less creative, but makes for art that can be and will be used. The idea of space, human interaction and flow within this space is intensely fascinating and often overlooked. Discourse involving the ‘charactor’ of housing is thought to be down to the location,  interior design and decor or interior architecture, but not often seen as possibly the general architecture of the building. The energy and the vibe that the space between two walls, calculated for either practical boundary reasons, or purposefully mapped out can generate this vibe that we can relate to and feel comfortable in. Charging Bulls

Here is a very large scale piece I did for a local Tapas Bar called The Bowl Full in Lincoln. The request was to paint a scene of stampeding, charging bulls from a face first view. A challenge in itself as nobody seems to have been able to get close enough in front of a herd of charging bulls to take a photograph! So working from imagination as much as possible I took to the job with an enthusiastic approach and a very loose hand. In order to portray strength and power in abundance I applied the paints with the same physical, expressive strokes myself (a technique I researched relentlessly towards my dissertation for my degree) and hoped that what came across was the same urgency, movement and power to compliment charging bulls. This piece is now installed in its new home The Bowl Full 🙂
