2013 – A Nostalgic Overview! (Yes! 2014!!!)

It is the LAST DAY OF 2013!! YEAAHHHHHHH! What a year! Looking back over 2013 I couldn’t be more proud. This time last year I had finished my first oil painting of an owl in flight, and had been working on a blog/website/social network upheaval to make my work more widely accessible and to connect with other artists and art lovers. I sit here today with such a huge backlog of paintings under my belt, so much so that I cannot believe I managed to do so much in just one year! And a great following. Gorilla Painting: The Making of… In pictures and video

  As silverback gorilla’s are my favorite animal I was more than challenged in being commissioned to paint one. In every aspect from their presence and expressions, I love all of the attributes of a gorilla, including the way they move. As I am so fond, I could not imagine not trying to involve as much of the traits I love about them into the painting itself. My starting point for this piece was documented in a video which shows the progression of the gorilla’s face from scratch (with a bit of Biffy Clyro…) WATCH HERE on my youtube channel.   It is images from here on out, different sizes, angles, styles to fully show the work the progression of the painting. I follow so many kinds of blogs, from other art blogs, to fashion, cooking, health, gossip, news, and personal blogs. The kind that capture my heart are always the personal blogs. They keep me returning to hear how someones life develops, how their projects have panned out and this makes me see the connection between them and the work they are doing. I look out for their next update and I think it is a wonderful thing that people can share their life and what they love to do, with others who feel the same. I have recently fully set up my own personal website that serves as an online portfolio for my paintings. But the community I have noticed on wordpress is a friendly and responsive one that has already helped me better my paintings and gain new subjects to work with. Art, January and Smiles!

This is me! Smiling lots because of all of the wonderful support I have received for my art work in this new year! My hardest work began January 1st 2013 as I am trying to create more artwork and get it seen. I have taken the opportunity of a new year and a new start with conviction and determination. I worked hard to create a foundation and a body of work that I could stand in securely and build skywards. January has gone well so far and the response to my work has been heart warming. Especially the messages I have had on the video I made recently of myself painting to show the painting process. My business cards arrived and I am happy and excited to start using them! Katy x
