The Queen Oil on canvas 32″x40″ inches With artist 🙂
2013 has so far been my year of experimenting with oil paints. Oil paints and myself are still very much getting to know one another. I was strictly a mixed media girl before 2013, I did not limit myself to one medium, I wanted to achieve as many effects, textures and styles within one painting as I could and mixed media is great for that. Only I was not as clued up on oils as I thought, and only from using them have I opened a lot of doors in terms of styles, application, techniques and effects. I have now fallen madly in love with oil paints and although I will always use different materials for different pieces, oils paints have become another limb for me and my work. A close up sample of my large scale gorilla oil painting (rainbow!) Katy x
Here is a piece I was commissioned to do, installed in the lovely Larch Lodge, Kenwick.
As silverback gorilla’s are my favorite animal I was more than challenged in being commissioned to paint one. In every aspect from their presence and expressions, I love all of the attributes of a gorilla, including the way they move. As I am so fond, I could not imagine not trying to involve as much of the traits I love about them into the painting itself. My starting point for this piece was documented in a video which shows the progression of the gorilla’s face from scratch (with a bit of Biffy Clyro…) WATCH HERE on my youtube channel. It is images from here on out, different sizes, angles, styles to fully show the work the progression of the painting. Hope your enjoy! , Katy x http://www.facebook.com/katyjadedobsonart Commissions – http://www.katyjadedobson.com
